Signing in keeps failing

What you see

A link from our email opens a page that says:

The link you followed has expired or was already used.

Or, after the right password:

When you signed up we emailed a link to confirm it. Opening that link confirms your email and signs you in.

Or, signing in with Google or Apple:

Google or Apple couldn’t sign you in: your account’s email isn’t confirmed yet.

Or, asking for a sign-in link:

The verification challenge didn't pass — try it again.

Or, resetting your password:

This password reset link is invalid or has expired. Request a new one.

Why it happens

Links we email work once, and only for a short while.

A link opened twice — some mail apps open links to check them before you do — or opened late has already been spent. Until you open the link we sent when you signed up, your email is not confirmed, and an account that is not confirmed cannot be joined to a Google or Apple sign-in. The human check runs before we send any link; a blocker or a very strict browser setting can stop it from passing.

What to do

Ask for a new link and open it soon, in the browser you asked from. If your email is not confirmed yet, find our first email and open its link, or sign in with your password and ask for the confirmation again. If the human check keeps failing, try again with content blockers paused for 23artifacts. To reset a password, ask for a new reset link from Forgot password.
